School Without Walls

Lead Artist | Summer Term 2012– current

A seven-week project where a class of Bath primary school children are resident in the egg children’s theatre for 4 days a week and follow a creative curriculum.

We respond to the children’s natural curiosities and accompany them as they explore a new learning landscape (which reaches beyond the walls of the egg, out into Bath and into their homes).

As a Lead Artist my role is to provide provocations, interventions and workshops to deepen and enrich their learning and creativity. Additionally I help shape and develop the final celebratory event (often a live exhibition) to share with their parents, friends and educators.

School Without Walls is a partnership between 5 x 5 x 5=creativity and the egg, Theatre Royal Bath together with St Andrews and St Michaels Primary Schools.

Working with 11-18 year olds and their teachers to develop a student-led creative curriculum which encouraged students to develop their own cross-curricular questions and make creative responses to encapsulate their discoveries.  These creative responses included films, installations and  performances.

In 2015 Writhlington School was the official “School Without Walls” school and we built a digital portal where students could stream in live performances, and conversations with experts and stream out their presentations and artworks.
